The tiny hamlet of Santon Bridge is ideally situated for walkers wanting to tackle Scafell Pike (8 miles), Muncaster Fell (7 miles) or the gentler Irton Pike (1.5 miles). Santon Bridge is also home to a popular pub which hosts the annual World s Biggest Liar competition, and is a great base for exploring Eskdale. You can take the narrow gauge La al Ratty steam train to the coastal village of Ravenglass (5 miles) or head inland to the beautiful Wast Water, England s deepest lake (4 miles). Other local attractions and landmarks include the historic Muncaster Castle (5.5 miles), the Stanley Ghyll Waterfall (7.5 miles), the site of Hardknott Roman Fort (8.5 miles) and the remains of Egremont Castle (10.5 miles).
