Ulverston is a cobbled-street market town. It has independent shops, cafés, and pubs with open fires and real ales. Fine dining and pub food are both available. Ulverston is a festival town, with flags, walking, art, and music festivals in the summer and the Dickensian Christmas festival in late November. Stan Laurel was born there, and it holds the world record for the biggest foam pie fight, revealing a fun, community-minded town. The town and surrounding countryside offer beautiful views of the southern Lake District and Morecambe Bay. Deepest, widest, and shortest canal makes for a lovely afternoon walk with a pub and bay views. All National Park attractions are accessible. Furness Coast has sandy beaches and birdwatching. Nearby family attractions include the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, Lakes Windermere and Coniston, and Birkrigg Common.
