Beachfront living is hard to beat, and that's exactly what this fuss-free apartment offers. Set on Sandgate Esplanade, the shingled beach is just across the street. It's on the top three floors of a Victorian building dating back 150 years, so expect to climb quite a few stairs. You'll find it's worth the effort, though, as the views from up here are superb. The bay window offers sweeping sea panoramas, including a glimpse of France in the distance. It's not the most modern home – the communal hallway is especially dated – but it works well for families keen to be seconds from the sea.

*This is a duplex apartment. The front door is on the first floor of a building without a lift, and there are further stairs once inside – including nine steps between the bathroom and the rest of the rooms on the top floor.
*The communal entrance of this building might appear a little worn and dated in parts. The stairs also creak as the building is over 150 years old.
*The trundle bed is best suited to children rather than adults.
*One bathroom has a bathtub with a hand-held showerhead. It doesn't have a shower curtain, so it's best suited to long soaks.
*Though a car isn't needed in the immediate area, we suggest having one for adventures further afield. Roadside parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
