A small village with lots to offer, Shap is situated between The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. The cottage is just a 5 minute walk from a couple of good pubs, cafe, shops, award winning Fish & Chip shop and even a heated open air swimming pool (available between May and September). For the train enthusiast, to the rear of the cottage is the West Coast main line, which occasionally plays host to vintage steam trains including The Flying Scotsman. Haweswater is your nearest lake, just 8 miles away, and provides access to many of the great Lake District peaks. The area around Haweswater is also home to an amazing amount of wildlife including deer, badgers and red squirrels. For the walkers amongst you, you can take on part of Wainwright's Coast to Coast, or enjoy any of the vast array of fabulous routes in the surrounding area. Alternatively, why not visit Sleddale Hall (as seen in the cult film, Withnail and I), or take a trip to the impressive ruins of Shap Abbey. Penrith is 10 miles to the north and Kendal 15 miles to the south, whilst Pooley Bridge and Ullswater are 30 minutes away. To the east lie the Howgill Fells and lovely market towns such as Sedbergh, Appleby and Kirkby Stephen. This cottage is one of those places that has a really lovely feel to it. The sitting room is warm and cosy with comfy seating, wood burner, TV with DVD player, and a selection of books, games and jigsaws. A basket of logs and kindling are provided to get your first fire going. The dining table is also in this room, right next to the wood burner, so you can be sure of a cosy meal. The kitchen is fully equipped with induction hob, electric double oven, microwave, dishwasher, under counter fridge and ample storage space. A utility room houses an under counter freezer and washing machine and also leads to a downstairs toilet. From the kitchen, stairs lead up to a landing that houses a traditional ceiling pulley clothes airer/dryer. From the landing is a double bedroom with king size bed and views towards Kidsty Pike and High Street, a twin bedroom, and a family bathroom with toilet, wash basin, and bath with hand rails, and shower over. You will find a thoughtful welcome pack including tea, coffee, sugar, milk, eggs and bread upon arrival. The raised garden is reached by slightly uneven steps (with handrail) and is long, with a gravelled area, seating and picnic table, and off road parking for up to 2 cars. For the train enthusiast, to the rear of the cottage is the West Coast main line, which occasionally plays host to vintage steam trains including the Flying Scotsman!
