Area
The small, picturesque harbour town of Newport lies along the shores of Clew Bay in Mayo, just north of Westport. Clew Bay is famed for its sea angling and water activities for any level of experience. Flowing through the town is the Black Oak River providing excellent fishing opportunities and wonderful walkways along its grassy banks and the Beltra Lake is also regarded as one of the best fresh water fishing lakes in Europe. Newport holds an annual ‘Splash’ festival, a fun filled day of water themed activities for young and old. The town of Newport is home to a charming coffee shop, welcoming pubs and mouth watering eateries, all complemented by the 19th century viaduct on the main street. Walking routes are plentiful and these include the Burrishoole & Mulranny Loops. Further afield you can visit the Ceide Fields near Ballycastle, and the Museum of Country Life.
Region
The West of Ireland conjures up many images; thatched, whitewashed cottages, a flock of sheep on a narrow road, an emerald green field with a stone wall, or the Atlantic waves crashing into towering cliffs and rocky shores.
