Area
Muker is a settlement and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, at the western end of Swaledale, one of the Yorkshire Dales. It is located within the Richmondshire district. Muker has seen an increase in visitors and holidaymakers since the late 1800s, and today the village offers a variety of walking possibilities, including a network of public footpaths in Upper Swaledale. Muker also has a village shop, a tavern (The Farmers Arms), an art gallery, a craft shop, and a café housed in an old school building. The Muker village tea store, which was formerly the Vicarage, was erected in 1680 and retains much of its 'Olde worlde beauty' today. The Muker Village shop has a Park Information Point for the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The Parish Church of Saint Mary, a Grade II* listed building, is the only church in the settlement. The River Swale runs alongside the settlement, with Kisden Hill providing a lovely backdrop.
Region
The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.
