Area
Montgomery sits just one mile from England/Wales border. Popular with tourists, the town offers a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, including the Michelin star The Checkers, a fabulous way to make your holiday truly special. Visit the ruins of 13th century Montgomery Castle, which enjoys beautiful views over the town’s timber-framed houses and cobbled streets and plays host to productions of touring theatre groups during the summer. A few miles to the south is the historic market town of Bishop's Castle, an excellent place for a day or night out with pubs, live music and festivals throughout the year. The wider area offers wonderful walking and cycling routes with varying levels of difficulty. Venture further into Wales to Snowdonia National Park, or directly west to Cardigan Bay, or hop back over the border and explore the Shropshire Hills AONB.

A E Housman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
