addremove
An idyllic traditional stone cottage set in the Cheviot foothills of Northumberland National Park, with spectacular uninterrupted views across open countryside. A perfect choice for relaxing and exploring. You will be immersed in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with an amazing abundance of wildlife to discover. In addition to your holiday cottage and private garden, it is only a short walk down the hill from the cottage before you reach a private stretch of the River Bowmont. You will also be able to explore walks around Mindrum Farm, a regenerative organic farm focused on soil health and maintaining a balanced agricultural ecosystem, which provides a fantastic breeding ground for a wide variety of birds, insects, flora and fauna. Watch gliders soar over the Cheviots, barn owls hunting, many types of waders and ducks gathering in the intentionally flooded areas and keep your eye out for the kingfishers and otters by the river the latter being notoriously shy and extremely difficult to spot. You will also probably meet Fuzzy, our resident donkey he can often be found near the fence looking for attention when in the neighbouring field and is very friendly, especially with young children. You are also welcome to explore the farm animals close up, for example by visiting the lambing sheds in early spring, as well as visiting Mindrum Gardens which are open by appointment. Take a short drive to the lovely market towns of Wooler and Kelso, offering restaurants and local activities to include golf courses and a racecourse in Kelso. The Cheviot Hills, Northumberland National Park and Pennine Way provide a haven for ramblers and wildlife alike. Venture to the stunning Northumberland coastline which offers seemingly never ending beaches and dramatic castle views or set sail to the Farne Islands to see a range of wildlife. Back on land visit Alnwick Castle (of Harry Potter fame) and its world famous gardens or Berwick Upon Tweed for its history, culture, shopping and restaurants. Enter the cottage through the front door into the entrance hall, kick off those boots and hang up your coats, head off to your left and you will find a cosy lounge where you can relax in front of the lovely wood burner and plan where you are going to explore the following day. Enjoy a meal together at the dining table or simply take a seat and admire the view. Leading off the lounge is the kitchen with electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave. The washing machine and a further freezer is located in the out house just yards from the front door. Coming back through to the hallway, you will find two beautifully furnished bedrooms one with a king size bed and one with twin beds, views onto the garden and grazing horses and donkey in the adjacent paddocks. Also, off the hallway is the bathroom with a shower over the bath, basin and WC. Venturing outside you will find an enclosed pretty garden with splendid views, lawn and wildflower borders. There is a comfortable seating area with table and chairs for al fresco dining, light the BBQ as the sun dips below the trees and enjoy supper under the stars. To the side of the cottage there is a gravelled area to park up to three cars, wood store and a bike storage area.
