Barn in Wiltshire: Melksham
addremove
This former cow barn is set in a rural spot on the outskirts of Seend, within walking distance of the canal. Visit Devizes on foot, which is home to the famous Caen Hill Locks and holds a popular farmers market each Thursday. The town of Melksham is also easily accessible and offers a good selection of pubs, cafes and shops. Set within rolling pastureland and with the village centre occupying a high vantage point, there is an abundance of picturesque routes winding through this verdant landscape that are suitable for walking and riding. Whatever the weather, you are sure to find plenty to do, with attractions including Avebury, Lacock and Longleat House and Safari Park, all within easy reach. A long unmade private driveway leads you to the detached property. From the parking area at the side of the barn you will find the main entrance, which opens into a striking open plan lounge/kitchen/diner. This stunning room has a vaulted ceiling and original beams, which you can admire whilst settling down on the comfy sofa and feeling the warmth of the wood burner. The kitchen area lines one wall and is well equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and washing machine. Heading past the dining space leads you to the shower room and a double bedroom, which has views over a natural pond through a beautiful feature window. Heading back into the open plan lounge/kitchen/diner you will find a set of stairs taking you up into the eaves. Taking full advantage of the vaulted ceiling is a mezzanine style lounge space, which overlooks the kitchen/diner below and has a sofa bed, which is available as additional sleeping space on request (suitable for one adult or two children). A TV and DVD player make this the ideal place to relax in front of a good film. Heading outside to the front of the barn is a patio area with furniture and a charcoal BBQ (available during summer months), surrounded by undulating natural lawn, which runs into the farmland beyond and is often visited by deer. Off road parking for 2 vehicles is available to the side of the property.
