The building’s gorgeous architecture gives the space its charm. We can’t get enough of the high-ceilings and floor to ceiling windows with shutters. It’s a shame then that, although the home is clean and light-filled, the furniture and design are on the generic side. This is more than made up for by its location in the middle of Baxia, minutes from Rua dos Fanqueiros, making it a great base to explore the city by foot.

Home truths:
* Due to the small water heater, there isn’t enough hot water for six consecutive showers
* There's only one bathroom between all six guests – it could take a while to leave the house in the mornings
* This home is filled with a lot of IKEA furniture – design snobs might want to look elsewhere
* Some of the furniture and surfaces are showing a bit of wear and tear
* The plants are all plastic – we much prefer the real thing
