Area
Grasmere, a small village in the Lake District National Park, is perhaps best known as the birthplace and lifelong residence of poet William Wordsworth. The Wilson family has been baking gingerbread at their shop, The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, for over 60 years. Additionally, the community is home to Grasmere Lake, a number of unique shops and taverns, and a church built in the 13th century. In August, Grasmere Sports hosts a number of different sporting events, including Cumberland wrestling, which can be watched by the public. Ambleside and Lake Winderemere are only five miles away and feature a variety of shops, pubs, and restaurants, as well as the iconic Bridge House from the 17th century, which is a popular photo op in the Lake District. The towns of Windermere and Keswick are easily accessible by car, while the lake itself offers opportunities for boating, sailing, and other activities. If you're planning a trip to the Lake District, Grasmere is a great place to stay.
