You can also sprawl out by the resort's pool, or if you want to take things easy, bask in the rays on the private balcony with a cocktail or two. Inside, the design is inspired by the coastal setting – think seafoam-coloured walls, tropical prints and wicker accents. The open-plan living space is great for socialising – the kitchen island is the perfect spot for breakfast – while built-in bunk beds and a lovely main suite will please both parents and kids at bedtime.

Gulf Shores is popular with families, thanks to the long list of activities that everyone will adore. Take a break from the sand and surf and spend the day catching thrills at the amusement parks and waterparks nearby (there are four within a twenty-minute drive), visit the animals at Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo (fifteen minutes by car) or get in touch with nature at the Wade Ward Nature Park (a seven-minute drive). Spend evenings dining on fresh-caught seafood at the eateries on the Wharf before watching the oceanfront sunset – not a bad way to end the day.
