Cottage in Cumbria: Gosforth
addremove
Nestled in the peaceful village of Gosforth, this delightful cottage can sleep up to six guests and is ideally placed for exploring coast and countryside alike. Plan your itinerary to involve days on the beach at Seascale 3 miles away, where you can explore the sandy beach and hunt for interesting creatures in the rock pools. Far removed from a traditional bucket and spade holiday, the western reaches of the Lake District are ripe for adventure with sweeping fells and magnificent mountains. Scafell Pike looms in the distance, inviting keen walkers to tackle its summit 9.5 miles away, but those who prefer a gentle amble will appreciate the footpaths leading from the village, be sure to look out for historic remnants dating back to Roman times as you explore. Enter via the back door to find the newly fitted country cottage style kitchen, a comfortable room that forms the hub of the home complete with hidden steps and stairs to various areas in the house. There is an electric Range cooker, a microwave and dishwasher plus plenty of storage space. There are steps up from the kitchen to a small boot room useful for leaving shoes and hanging coats, off this room is the modern bathroom with a bath, separate shower and WC. Back in the kitchen, the original stairs are concealed behind a small door, which leads down to a utility room with a washing machine and freezer. A smaller set of steps lead up into the lounge where you can relax on the sofa with a glass of wine, lighting the wood burner and grabbing one of the throws on chilly winter evenings. Catch up on your favourite TV shows, watch a DVD, or play a board game around the table in the adjoining dining room. From here, you can descend a curved stone staircase to discover the snug, with double sofa bed, TV, DVD and feature stained glass window. Yet another set of stairs secreted behind a kitchen door reveals the first floor with a double bedroom with views to the Irish Sea, the final bedroom is on the second floor. Tucked in the eaves of the house, the twin bedroom, also with lovely views, has two zip and link beds that can be converted into a king size bedroom on request. Take care on the cottage style stairs as they are steep. Outside, the garden is set across several levels with a picnic bench and wood burner at the bottom, and a decked area at the top with garden sofas. The views across the countryside are impressive, best enjoyed over a glass of wine and an al fresco supper.
