The village is best known for playing a vital role in the tin and copper industry, previously functioning as a small port that engaged in the importing and exporting of mined minerals. Today, popular attractions include the natural landscapes of Devoran Park and Devoran Creek, along with the historic landmark of The Quay, whilst visitors can also indulge in some traditional pub grub at The Old Quay Inn, the Norway Inn in Perranarworthal or the Carnon Inn Beefeater in Carnon Downs. A short drive from the village will bring you to the coastal town of Falmouth, which is home to Pendennis Castle, Falmouth Art Gallery, National Maritime Museum Cornwall and the lush sands of Gyllyngvase Beach.
