  • "We had a lovely time at Tide House, the house is very clean, the beds are extremely comfortable as are the sofas, the kitchen has everything you need and more, the garden is very nice too."

We enjoyed inland and coastal walks directly from the front door, which all seemed to end at the village pub :o). Parking is directly outside. We took our two dogs and found the area of Northumberland Coast to be very dog friendly. There are no shops in the village, which we were made aware of before booking, but there are a few nice food shops within a mile or so and if you travel into Alnwick, you will find several large supermarkets to choose from including an M&S Food store with free parking, which we used. We hope to come back to Tide House soon.

We are so please you had a wonderful stay with us at Hightide House and enjoyed the facilities. Great you found the location ideal for exploring the Northumberland Coast. We would love to see you again. Many thanks for your review. Property Owner

If you would rather take an evening stroll along Craster Harbour you will find the local pub welcoming where you can sit outside with a beautiful view over the sea. Watch as boats bob happily in the water as you spend your mornings wandering around the harbour, or grab your bikes from the shed and enjoy a thrilling cycle along the coast to see the eye catching 14th-century ruins of the Dunstanburgh Castle, now owned by the National Trust. The coastal paths in either direction allow you to explore the coast line beaches, and local area. Travel north to the towns of Bamburgh and Seahouses both which boast beautiful beaches and also discover the coastal fortress of Bamburgh Castle, before taking a boat across to the Farne Islands National Nature Reserve to see Inner Farne Lighthouse and Puffins Rookery. Holy Island is also just a few miles up the coast and defiantly worth a visit as this also has an intriguing castle and ancient priory.

Visit the neighbouring town of Alnwick for a tour of Alnwick Castle and Gardens, once the backdrop to many famous Harry Potter scenes.

The new Lilidorei Playground the largest of its kind can also be found there. Learn of the town’s rich local history at Fusiliers Museum Of Northumberland and Bailiffgate Museum, or explore the 12th century friary of Hulne Priory. Where you’ll be staying

CRASTER

Alnwick 7 miles; Embleton 3 miles.

A picturesque village that seems to tumble into the sea, Craster was an important fishing harbour in the 17th century and is still famous for its oak cured kippers which have graced the best breakfast tables for more than 150 years. The village offers a pub serving food, a fish restaurant and Robson's famous fish shop. There is also an excellent children's playground. Nearby are some of Northumberland's finest sandy beaches. Just south of Craster is Howick Hall, which was built in 1782 and has associations with the Grey family, including Earl Grey the great social reformer and tea enthusiast. The gardens at Howick Hall are open to the public during the spring and summer and are especially worth a visit during the rhododendron season. A walk along the coastal footpath to the north of Craster brings you to the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle - the largest ruined castle in Northumberland.
