Whinlatter Forest is 7 miles away, where you can Go Ape or hire bikes and explore the great forest trails. The shore path at Bassenthwaite (8 miles) runs the length of the west shore leading to Keswick (12.5 miles) and makes for a lovely stroll. Visit the Lake District Wildlife Park (7 miles) for a walk on the wild side, or test your palette when enjoying a tour at the Lakes Distillery (5 miles). Taste Cumbria Food Festival is held in September in Cockermouth, with a huge range of local produce as well as live music.
