Take a short stroll (less than 1 mile) into the centre of Cockermouth, where you ll find a bustling Georgian market town, packed with independent shops, cafes, and restaurants. The town is the birthplace of the poet William Wordsworth, and a visit to the area wouldn t be complete without a potter around Wordsworth House and Garden (0.5 miles). Just 8 miles away is Whinlatter Forest and Park, home of Go Ape, which makes a fantastic family day out. Whinlatter is home to stunning views, excellent walks, mounting biking and rare wildlife. Beyond Whinlatter in the Adventure Capital of England is popular Keswick where you can sample the retail and foodie delights. Alternatively, hop in the car and head to the coast (8 miles) for remote beaches and windswept clifftop paths. Four steps lead to the front door of this exquisite property. With high ceilings, period features and stylish decor, this home away from home is sure to create a memorable backdrop to your holiday. Off the hallway, you ll find the grand lounge. This room is bathed in natural light, thanks to a wonderful bay window, and at the centre is a magnificent ornamental fireplace. Recline on the plush sofa to watch the TV or curl up in the armchair by the window to watch the world go by. The pretty dining room is another elegant space to enjoy family time together, around the large wooden table, playing board games from the selection provided or sharing a delicious hearty meal. To the rear of the cottage is the stylish kitchen, with fabulous slate worktops and sleek units. The kitchen is equipped with a Range style electric oven with a gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, and a handy dishwasher. Two steps take you from here to the bright and airy breakfast room, which has a beautiful wooden table with benches, where you can spread out all your maps and guidebooks to plan your day s itinerary over breakfast. A further two steps take you from here to a little snug, with two armchairs, where you can steal a few quiet moments with a newspaper and a cup of tea. Finally, completing the ground floor is a handy shower room with a WC. Heading upstairs, you ll find two of the four bedrooms. There s a delightful twin and a king size bedroom that looks out over the rooftops to the countryside beyond. This bedroom is furnished with vintage pieces and has an en suite shower room with a WC tucked around the corner of the room. Also on the first floor is the spectacular family bathroom, which features an impressive clawfoot free standing bath, as well as a shower and WC. The washing machine and tumble dryer are cleverly hidden in a cupboard in the bathroom. An additional WC is also located on this floor. The two remaining bedrooms are situated on the second floor. Both have lovely wooden floorboards. The double bedroom has views over the rear of the cottage and the spacious king size bedroom looks out towards the countryside. Outside, discover a charming, enclosed courtyard through the patio doors from the snug. This area is a real sun trap and has outdoor furniture, so you can enjoy your meals in the garden throughout the summer months. On street parking is available less than 50 metres from the property.
