Area
The most picturesque village in the Lake District is widely acknowledged to be the mediaeval South Lakeland community of Cartmel. With its gatehouse serving as the village's entry, the Priory Church, one of the finest ecclesiastical structures in northern England, continues to be the centre of the neighbourhood. Beautiful streamside walks, charming cobbled streets lined with antique shops, a charming gift shop, warm, traditional pubs serving real ale, the nationally acclaimed, Michelin Star-awarded L'Enclume restaurant, and the Cartmel Village shop, which sells the world-famous sticky toffee custard are all found in the village. Take advantage of the fantastic walking options in the stunning, unspoiled countryside, and travel nearby to the Cartmel Racetrack, the Campbell Legend Bluebird Show, the Lakeland Automotive Museum, and Holker Hall with its magnificent gardens. A short 2-mile journey will take you to the peaceful beach community of Grange-over-Sands, which features Edwardian architecture and a mountain backdrop. A 30-minute drive will take you to Windermere, which offers sweeping views of England's longest lake. An excellent holiday spot any time of year.
