Valley Slate

Set in Arties, a picturesque town in the Pyrenees, this charming wood, slate and stone house is the perfect mountain retreat. The interiors are cosy and chic – wooden beamed ceilings, cream sofas, and an original stone fireplace give the living space that quintessential chalet feel, while the snug bedrooms upstairs have skylights that frame the view of the mountains beyond. Draw the blinds in the morning to let that crisp mountain light in before heading downstairs for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat at the breakfast bar.

Arties is one of the most beautiful villages in the Aran Valley. There are several family run restaurants and bars within easy walking distance of the house. In the summertime there’s plenty of fun to be had in the surrounding area. Follow one of the hiking trails taking you through breathtaking mountain scenery, either on foot, by mountain bike, or on horseback. For a spot of culture, the magnificent eleventh century Santa Maria Church is a six-minute walk from the house.

In the winter months, the Baqueira/Beret ski resort is seven kilometres away. It’s widely acknowledged to be Spain’s best ski resort, with 167km of pistes. After hitting the slopes, head to one of the lively apres-ski spots in the area, or come home to Arties for tapas and wine, before taking a relaxing bubble bath and curling up by the fire.
