This 18th century cottage benefits from a beautifully secluded location, in open countryside 1.25 miles from the village of Hawkshead, surrounded by gardens and fields with mountain views. Hawkshead village with its core of medieval buildings is home to the Beatrix Potter Gallery and the Grammar School where William Wordsworth was a pupil. It has a small supermarket, a delicatessen, four traditional inns, several cafes, a pharmacy and a chip shop; and can be reached by road or by a walk across fields with panoramic views. Located in the heart of the Lake District, Hatter s Cottage provides an excellent base for walking and cycling on a network of footpaths and quiet lanes. A short stroll takes you to the National Trust beauty spot Tarn Hows and Grizedale Forest (0.5 miles). For hillwalkers the Coniston mountains with their fascinating copper mining history and Coniston Water are within 3 miles. For the less adventurous there are boat trips on Lake Windermere (5 miles) with views of the Langdale Pikes popular with rock climbers. The cottage's stable style front door leads into the cosy sitting room, with its beamed ceiling, traditional slate hearth (sorry, no open fire), comfortable sofas and large screen Smart TV. Alcoves in the walls are evidence of the cottage's former use for making hats. Leading from the sitting room is the kitchen/dining room, with antique table and oak dresser. The recently modernised kitchen area is equipped with everything required to cook a meal for all to enjoy around the dining table which seats four. On the first floor there are two bedrooms. Bedroom one has twin beds that can be zipped together to form a super king sized double and plenty of space for hanging clothes in the wardrobe. Bedroom two has a king size double bed and lovely views across the fields to the mountains. Next to it is the shower room/toilet which overlooks the cottage's garden. The front door leads straight onto the sunny south facing traditional slate patio offering privacy for outdoor dining in the sunshine, with the cottage lawn enclosed by flowering shrubs beyond. Here you can sit back and enjoy the peace of the private garden, shared with the birds, with the stream nearby murmuring in the background.
