Gilwern is a traditional village with pubs, shops, and a picturesque canal. It sits on the edge of the Blaenavon World Heritage site, and you can enjoy country walks right from your doorstep or visit the historic town of Abergavenny (4 miles) full of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. Nearby are galleries, museums, castles and a vineyard, or hire a narrowboat; you can see the viaduct crossing the Clydach just a little way up the gorge. Other attractions in the area include Blaenavon Iron Works (7 miles), The Big Pit National Coal Museum (7 miles), the Brecon Beacons Visitor Centre (22 miles), horse riding, mountain biking, climbing, and kayaking on the Usk and Wye. This three storey property is part of a converted textile mill, originally powered by a water wheel. The water wheel is gone, but the sound of water is ever present. The property is in a sheltered position that catches the winter sun, there is also a shaded area of decking to the rear for hot weather. The main access is to the front of the property where you will enter into the kitchen/dining area, a spacious room with areas for relaxing or dining and a well equipped kitchen with an electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer. There is a utility room which is a great space for muddy boots, a shower and WC. The stairs to the first floor lead you to a spacious lounge with a Juliette balcony overlooking the river, and French doors to the shady rear terrace. The lounge has a distinct retro vibe, with low, comfortable sofas, a TV with Freeview satellite channels and a vintage stereo. The stairs offer access to the second floor where you will find a generous double bedroom and a small bunk bedroom with standard single bunk beds. The main shower room and WC are also on this floor. To the front of the property, a small suntrap terrace with tables and benches is cordoned off from the communal paved area where you can enjoy a morning coffee or listen to birdsong or the river meandering by. There is allocated parking for two cars at the end of the driveway.
