Set just yards away from the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal in the picturesque village of Gilwern (Abergavenny 4.1 miles), this attractive, pet friendly cottage is ideally located for exploring the best of the Brecon Beacons and Black mountains. Nestled within the Usk Valley and almost entirely surrounded by mountains and hills with the iconic seven hills of Abergavenny (the Blorenge, Sugar Loaf, Ysgyryd Fawr and Ysgyryd Fach (Great Skirrid and Little Skirrid) Deri, Rholben and Mynydd Llanwenarth) all within 10 miles, the choice of walking trails is endless or perhaps you would prefer to stroll the canal which is mere steps from your front door or seek out the local waterfall. The cottage is a perfect base for guests to enjoy the beautiful countryside and is ideal for those that enjoy outdoor pursuits or for guests that just wish to relax into village life. Food Festivals, the Shire Horse Show and the Steam and Vintage Rally are all held locally, with other popular attractions in the area include the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Blaenavon, The Big Pit Coal Museum and the Iron Works. Llangorse Lake and Llandegvedd Lake are both 11 miles away for water sport enthusiasts. Talybont Reservoir is also 11 miles away. The village of Gilwern itself offers 3 pubs, a butchers, chemist, village shop, post office and fish and chip shop. On entering this stylish property, guests will walk into the cosy open plan living and dining area, with a warming wood burner on the left hand side of the lounge, you can cosy up to a film on Netflix after a day of exploring the local area. The kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, and a dishwasher. Upstairs the master bedroom has a comfortable king size bed to ensure a good night sleep, with a second bedroom which has a double bed, and a third bedroom with a single bed. There is a full bathroom with a shower over the bath and a wash basin and toilet. Leading out of the kitchen to the rear of the cottage, is a small, enclosed garden with a table and chair and a charcoal BBQ, perfect to enjoy those summer evenings or morning coffee listening to the birds sing at dawn. The historic and thriving market town of Y Fenni (Abergavenny) known as the gateway to Wales is just a short drive away (4.1 miles), hosts an array of events, has a Norman Castle open to visitors and regular farmers markets. Further into the National park is the vibrant town of Crickhowell (3.2 miles) which is full of independent shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes and is home to the Glanusk Estate which hosts an array of activities throughout the year including the renowned Green Man Festival. The area is well known for its local produce and celebrated eateries, including the Michelin starred Walnut Tree Inn and there is even a vineyard at the foot of the Sugar Loaf, which is well worth a visit.
