Turn your head from that captivating view of marvellous Marseille and you will find that there is just as much to admire within the four walls of the home. Tasteful touches, such as the gorgeously restored parquet floor, the industrial-chic exposed lightbulbs, ultra-sleek sliding doors to the bathroom and cool, quirky poster-style artwork combine with expert use of colour, texture, and the occasional piece of highly polished antique French furniture.

The overall effect is one of ‘old-meets-new’, and, in a way, this is the perfect metaphor for Marseille itself – a town known just as much for its cosmopolitan nightlife, eclectic cultural offerings, and an irresistible cuisine compiling a rich tapestry of influences as it is for its lazy backstreets and traditional Provencal architecture.

Heading back to the apartment in the late afternoon you can look forward to an evening drink in the amber-hued light that now fills its spaces, before perhaps venturing out to sample some of Marseille’s upbeat, funky night-time entertainment – much of which takes place outdoors thanks to the city’s balmy Mediterranean climate.
